It was several months ago on a camping trip with my family where I was reading and researching Bible studies for our ministry for this fall. I perused the usual authors and teachers, and found many beneficial studies. But I was seeking one on the topic of forgiveness, as that was the path our team and Elder had chosen. I knew it was an area in my life where I needed to grow, so I was excited to order and preview it. (Just the fact that I am excited for Bible studies attests to the amazing power of God to pull me out of a hell bound lifestyle and pit of fear and redeem me through His son Jesus Christ!) So, back to the story…
So here we are in week 2 of that study, and right there in black and white, I find a truth that only God could have known I needed this day at this time. It is just crazy how this lesson was spot on and so specific!
It is truly supernatural! Not in a freaky, weird Twilight Zone kind of way, but in a cool, amazing God kind of way.
He knew I needed to hear that specific truth today, just like he knows exactly what I need every day. I believe Psalm 139 explains this best…
Psalm 139
For the director of music. Of David. A psalm.
You have searched me, Lord,
and you know me.
You know when I sit and when I rise;
you perceive my thoughts from afar.
You discern my going out and my lying down;
you are familiar with all my ways.
Before a word is on my tongue
you, Lord, know it completely.
You hem me in behind and before,
and you lay your hand upon me.
Such knowledge is too wonderful for me,
too lofty for me to attain.
Where can I go from your Spirit?
Where can I flee from your presence?
If I go up to the heavens, you are there;
if I make my bed in the depths, you are there.
If I rise on the wings of the dawn,
if I settle on the far side of the sea,
even there your hand will guide me,
your right hand will hold me fast.
If I say, “Surely the darkness will hide me
and the light become night around me,”
even the darkness will not be dark to you;
the night will shine like the day,
for darkness is as light to you.
For you created my inmost being;
you knit me together in my mother’s womb.
I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
your works are wonderful,
I know that full well.
My frame was not hidden from you
when I was made in the secret place,
when I was woven together in the depths of the earth.
Your eyes saw my unformed body;
all the days ordained for me were written in your book
before one of them came to be.
How precious to me are your thoughts,a God!
How vast is the sum of them!
Were I to count them,
they would outnumber the grains of sand--
when I awake, I am still with you…… v.1-18
Pretty cool, isn’t it?! He KNOWS us. Intimately. Completely. Lovingly. And He has a plan for us and promises to protect us. He speaks directly to us and our situations in the Bible. Open it today and find Him!
I am grateful for so many things. For God and His Word, for Jesus who died to save me from my sins and for His active work in my life. Learning and growing never stop! Praising Him today for his mercies which are new every morning. Thankful that He uses everyday things to mold me and shape me into the person He desires me to be. And so glad I can count on Him to “call me out” when necessary! The Psalm ends with these verses…which require a bit of courage to pray, honestly. Because when you ask God to search your heart and let you know what’s up, you better be ready to adjust!
Search me, God, and know my heart;
test me and know my anxious thoughts.
See if there is any offensive way in me,
and lead me in the way everlasting. V. 23-24
I pray He continually brings me back to Him until the day when I never have to fear this world or its people ever again.
Father God, I approach your Holiness today in awe of your power in this world and in my life. I ask you to renew me and refuel my zest to serve you. I pray for a clean and forgiving heart. In Jesus’ Name. AMEN
